Since December 2009, I have started a new venture called ‘Senior Netizens‘. As the name suggests, its a computer class for the Elderly.
The classes are conducted at my residence for a duration of 2 weeks. In this time I teach them computer basics and how to use the internet to Typically, the group of students are middle aged and senior citizens. Initially some are are scared of using the computer fearing that something will go wrong or simply get overawed or sometimes even intimidated by computers.
My aim it put away this fear and make the computer their ‘new friend’ !
‘Senior Netizens’ is a comfortable place for all seniors where they can ask questions which they always wanted to know answers to. Commonly asked questions are typically something like, ” when do I left and when do I right click on the mouse?” or another classic is, ” how does once use a (Ctrl+Alt+Del) all at the same time? ” which would sound funny or silly to a person using the computer regularly. But for my students its a genuine difficulty. Here we solve these and many more such questions. We try our best to make the students feel comfortable with the computer and enjoy its uses thoroughly.
Once they befriend the computer, they start enjoying surfing, googling, chatting, downloading pictures and even social networking. Here they also get to learn how to pay their bills online, book cinema tickets, flight/train tickets . They also read online hotel reviews and and then book their choice of hotel.

The fees for the entire program is nominally charged at Rs.600 to encourage more and more seniors to come ahead and sync up with todays e-generation.
